It is hard to travel across the country, but last week I had the most amazing two travel days. On thursday I worked almost a full day (7:30a-5pm) then got on the BART to head to the SFO airport from Oakland. That takes an hour. I got on a plane to Los Angeles, and then an Overnight flight to New York for a day of interviewing.
If you have to travel overnight, business or first class is the way to go. I take many of these flights, so I was ready with my noise cancelling headphones and eyeshade. But as I was sitting in business class, several other people got upgraded to business class. I could tell they were business class redeye virgins. Lots of talking and shouting across the rows until the guy ahead of me made the throat clear and I turned around to give them the "I will get you in your sleep if you do not be quiet now" look.
Upon arriving in New York at JFK airport, I took my life into my hands and grabbed a taxi to downtown Manhattan. That was $45 and the scariest 50 minutes of the day. I bought a day pass to the local gym next to the office, showered primped and got ready for the interviewing. Interviewing is hard work.
After a long day of interviews, I grabbed the subway to Penn Station New York in midtown, then onto an Amtrak Acela to Philadelphia's Penn Station. From there I got a local train to the airport, where I had parked when I flew out last Monday. Then I drove home and took my beautiful wife and wrinkly headed baby to the mall so people could come up to me and look at me, looking like 2 day old fish left in the sun, and then look at Steph and Kate and decide "That guy looks messed up, but his wife looks good and the baby is cute, so we won't call the baby people to harass him" Then we had the sleeping. The best part of the week.
