Do what?! In a theater?!

I occasionally correspond with an ex-boyfriend and last week he reminded me of an Alanis Morrisette tape I had left in his car the last time I'd seen him. Yes, this was back when CDs were just on the horizon. I loved that tape and listened to it often. It was her debut album. My ex-boyfriend now associates me with those songs. To be honest, I'm not really excited about that because Alanis seems kind of angry, doesn't she? Or maybe that was just on her first album. I wouldn't really know because after I left that tape in his car, I never went out of my way to listen to her again.

It's okay though because, whenever I hear a certain Bryan Adams song, I think of him. I've never asked him, but I'm guessing he's not a huge Bryan Adams fan. Nothing seems to open the pages of my memory like a song or a scent.

For example...
Calvin Klein's Obsession cologne reminds me of my ex, Blind Greg, because he always wore it.
Rotten mushrooms remind me of Alamosa, Colorado.
"The Piano Man" by Billy Joel reminds me of my high school friend Richard because he sang it with gusto.

Your turn. Give me a song or scent and the corresponding memory.

btw the Alanis Morrisette tape you speak of (likely "jagged little pill") was not her debut album as she had a couple pop albums in 1991 ans 1992 before that but she was know only as Alanis back then.

I'm not some die hard Alanis fan, I'm just Canadian and old enough to remeber that (of course my memory is helped by google :)).

Scents? Ummmm...well, now that you asked, I can't remember any. Well.....*draws blank on a really good question*

Shania Twain's "I Feel Like a Woman" reminds me of a bus ride I took with a bunch of friends in Guatemala City.
And if I walk by a house and an intence smell of cig smoke makes it all the way to the sidewalk, I think of home and mom and dad.

Cig smoke reminds me of driving to Slippery Rock after dinner with K Booth and the gang and smoking contraband ciggys. What rebels we used to be!!

Dave Matthews Band. "Best of What's Around." Always reminds me of walking through Lucerne, Switzerland with a good friend and us singing it to each other. We were having a really bad travel day where nothing worked out. But we were hanging out together, so it ended up being a really good memory anyway.

The first time I went to Montana, as the plane was landing in Kalispell, I was listeneing to 'King Of This Heart' by Matt Redman. To this day I get tears in my eyes when I hear this song remembering how beautiful the mountains were surrounding the valley as we came down out of the clouds...and wishing that I could go back there.
