January Project: Rockstar-Karaoke Birthday Bash

Billy Idol loves the nearing-30 setVince and I just volunteered to host a themed birthday party this month celebrating two hot chickitas nearing the big three-O. The theme started out somewhere around purple bunnies and ended up at rockstar karaoke. For real.

Here's where we need help: developing the theme. So far, we've got handbill-style invitations with various rockstars on them, a karaoke DJ lined up (I think) and a half-furnished house with no curtains (and we've already had help to get this far). The invitations specify that rockstar clothing and accessories are required.

The invitees are a creative group up for almost anything, possibly not unlike yourselves (in fact, some of you will be receiving invites-- you know who you are). Where else can we go with this? Any ideas?

The only idea for food we've had so far is a bowl of green M&Ms. Also, I'm trying to figure out what kind of a backdrop we need for the karaoke singers to make it really, like, rockstar.

Do keep in mind we have a very limited budget. Trying to own a house has seriously quashed our rockstar lifestyle.

How to turn this post into a nearing-30 drinking game: Drink every time you see the word "rockstar." Hydrate when you see "karaoke."

i have a problem with not posting my name.... in case you couldn't figure it out by the lack of punctuation or capitalization and fashion obsessiveness... that last post was from me. rebecca.

Ooh, I can picture the trashed-hotel-room ambiance now. Plus, that way I won't really have to clean...

Megan, we do need a bartender. Perhaps we can set up an audition for this weekend.

John, you're totally right: it's all about the 80s, man. I'm thinking Madonna-esqe candelabras and a bathtub in the living room...

What about a tie-dyed sheet? Is that too hippy? I actually like the idea of just trashing your house. Inexpensive and easy to do. String up some beer cans.

I'm sooo into this theme.. you should get some wire and hang different colored blank CD's from the ceiling

Can I bartend? I'll send you my resume... I've served drinks to many people who thought they were rockstars.

Just trash your house for the theme. Say its the hotel party after the show. Y

Here's your idea:

You get a huge curtain backdrop and make it like Star Search.

Nothing with the 60s or 70s, this is a nearing-30 crowd, so its going to be like big poofy hair for the girls and mullets for the guys. For food: how about some rice crispy treats?

How about a background of aluminum foil and a disco ball???

maybe you could make music videos and use some kind of green backdrop, and replace the backdrop in the videos with scenes from a lavalamp like they did way back in the 60's!

does that make sense? probably not. :) and i guess lavalamps aren't very billy idol.
