« The new hood | Main | A pain in the lumbar »
I just finished watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. This episode was of special interest to me because Capitol Heights, where it was filmed, is maybe 20 minutes away from me. The house ABC built this family of 8 was nice...certainly better than any house in the neighborhood and probably the city itself. The house that was torn down had bars on the door and windows and the inside was all torn up, so hopefully some sort of security features will be installed in the new house with all the nice stuff inside.
According the this information (which is a few years old), Capitol Heights is low-income, high-crime area. High crime, as in having a crime index of 517.2 where the national average is 329.7. Races in Capitol Heights:
* Black (92.8%)
* White Non-Hispanic (4.7%)
* Two or more races (1.4%)
* Hispanic (0.9%)
* American Indian (0.7%)
That being said, I've never seen more white people in a one-block radius of Capitol Heights as I saw tonight on TV. It kinda made me chuckle.
By the way, I cannot believe the crap on TV. Vampire Bats on CBS? Anyone catch that? Please don't admit it. I wouldn't want to think any less of you.
PS - Happy birthday, Dave!

I don't know about convicted felon, but wasn't one of the crew's wives attacked and robbed in a local hotel lobby? Good old PG county.
