The Skating Years

This morning, my friend Beverly confessed to me that she's had The New Kids on the Block's "The Right Stuff" stuck in her head for the past day. In attempt to pass it on to me and purge it from her brain, she broke out in song: "Oh oh, oooh-oh-oh... Oh oh, oooh-oh..." Fortunately for me, I already had a song stuck in my head so her evil plan backfired.

Beverly: Do you think they still play NKOTB at the skating rink?
Allison: Nah. They play Top 40, I think. If they still played that kind of music at the skating rink, I'd be there every Saturday.

Songs they played at the skating rink back in my day:
"Staight Up" - Paula Abdul
"Don't Worry, Be Happy" - Bobby McFarrin
"Cover Girl" - NKOTB
"High Enough" - Damn Yankees
"Right Here Waiting" - Richard Marx
"Hangin' Tough" - NKOTB
"When I See You Smile" - Bad English
Guns and Roses
Janet Jackson

In related news...I read an article yesterday that Paula Abdul is planning on returning to music. I'm thinking maybe she should just stick to American Idol!

Michael Damien was the opening act when I went to the NKOTB concert! Him and "Perfect Gentleman".

Another tune that never loses it's greatness:
Every Rose Has It's Thorn-Poison

Check out what I heard on the radio last night. I was sooooo excited!!
Micheal Damien's "Rock On"
Isn't that the greatest?

Yes indeedy. You and I (damn it -- is it you and me?) are close enough in age to appreciate the sounds of the mid/late eighties-early nineties. Songs like Young M.C.'s "Bust A Move," Naughty By Nature's "OPP," and Tevin Campbell's "Round And Round" plant me right there (yes, smack dab) in the middle of our cafeteria turned dance floor the night of our 9th grade "MORP" dance. The first dance of our high school experience was the clever brain-child of the faculty elite -- "PROM" spelled backwards. Oh my! Now I can't get Color Me Badd's "I Wanna Sex You Up" out of my head. Oh wait. Make that my tape deck.

Those songs take me back!! I did happen to watch I Love the 90s Part Deux last night (1990) and they played a clip from Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract" video. Too funny!

NKOTB Rule! I was at their concert in 6th grade, so that woulda been circa 1989 I think. Unfortunately, my favorite NK was Donnie Wahlberg, and he was not at the concert as he had somehow been injured in rehearsals falling through a trap door in the stage, or so they told us! Talk about a bummer!
